“Where are you going?”
Someone once asked me that about this photo. I naturally replied that I was headed up the Wy’east Face on Hood. I was unaware, at the time, that the photo, through the conversation it generated, would lead me off onto unexpected mountain adventures and, this weekend, onto a plane.
Vacation
August 18, 2008 at 11:06 pm | In Life | Leave a CommentTwo weeks of vacation are sometimes what the doctor doesn’t necessarily order but what the patient needs. Time in the mountains with a new friend and with family is apparently the ticket to a form of holistic peace. Tomorrow, I’ll begin my journey back into the world of challenging but rewarding work. Tonight, however, I’m taking this moment, and others, to bask in what it means to have relaxed, thought things through a little, and immersed myself in a form of humanity that’s been absent from my life of late.
I sincerely hope that, as nearly nothing in life commutes, that a residue of this vacation transformation remains with me for time to come.

How incredible is that?

Red helmets seem to accompany me whereever I go…
Progress
August 1, 2008 at 9:11 pm | In Life, Physics | Leave a CommentThere’s a few things I’d like to say about our experiment, but I don’t think I will. It’s best to be careful when chatting about experimental results, lest folks get bent out of shape. It will suffice to say that, with the exception of the middle of the week, which was antagonizing, this week’s turned out well. As happened last year, I’m leaving town just as the interesting bit’s about to happen. The solution? Do as much of the interesting bit as I can before I leave!
It’s a work weekend, followed by a crazy, but seemingly right, adventure, and off for the annual family gathering and climb-fest. Lots to do to make it all work. Completing it all requires renewed focus… and the successful washing of laundry … now.
